What to do when emotions take over...

We all feel discomfort from time to time. But how often do we take the time to examine what is *really* going on?

The first challenge is to notice the discomfort both within your mind and body. By befriending our discomfort and emotions we can really get in touch with them, understand them, and make them feel heard. What might your emotions be telling you? And after that, then what *else* might they be telling you? Dig deeper. Ask more questions.

Here are 7 ways to befriend your emotions:

  1. Recognise that I am feeling something – admit that you’re having an emotional response.

  2. Feel the feeling in your body.

  3. Create a non-judgmental space for yourself.

  4. Name the feeling.

  5. Feel it some more.

  6. Express it in a healthy way.

  7. What do I need to release it? Ask yourself what do I really want to be feeling?
